Program Services
A description of each service offered
is as follows:
Family Rental Assistance Program
(FRAP)
The “Family Rental Assistance Program”
is a program established to provide monthly rent support (relief)
to working poor families that will result in a net monthly rent payment
at an affordable level, one that is well below market rates. This
rent subsidy is generated through donations from individuals and families,
corporations, foundations, churches and synagogues.
English as a 2nd Language
Instructors will continue to teach both adults
and children English as a second language. This is intended to be
basic instruction of words and phrases used in common everyday speaking.
As the program advances, it’s our hope to increase this learning
process to include more advanced speaking and reading skills.
Tutoring Program
Volunteer instructors tutor our children generally
between the grades of 1st through 8th, but also some high school tutoring.
The tutoring program is offered daily, Monday through Thursday. Friday
is our “Fun Day” with activities for all ages of our children.
After School
Program
We offer after school supervised programs for our children. Activities
include arts and crafts projects, computer training, computer games,
Internet instruction, etc. By keeping our children off of the streets,
we keep them away from gangs and drugs and help them to focus on positive
life skills and attitudes.
Clothing, Furniture and Household
Goods “Free For All” Program
Helping Hands receives a fair amount of donated
furniture, clothing and household goods. On a periodic basis, usually
once per month, we hold an “Exchange For All” where our
residents can select items that are of use to them and donate items
they no longer use.
Food Distribution
Helping Hands provides referrals to local area
food banks where residents can receive foodboxes at very low cost.
Transportation Resource
Helping Hands assists residents with transportation
to and from necessary appointments as needed.
Life Skills Training
In conjunction with local area non-profits and
volunteers, we provide basic life skills workshops and classes to
our residents, including basic job skills, computer training and self-esteem
classes.
Christmas “Adopt-A-Family”
Program
Each Christmas, Helping Hands hosts our “Adopt-A-Family”
program where we secure Sponsors for each of our families. Using a
Resident Profile, Sponsors purchase Christmas gifts for all of the
children and one family gift for the parents. Gifts are then distributed
at our annual Christmas Fiesta.
Referral Services
Provide residents with information and resources
which Helping Hands does not provide.
Monthly Community Activities
In an effort to build community, Crest
Apartments hosts a variety of social events periodically for our residents.
They include our Easter celebration, a Summer Splash party, our Halloween
party and Christmas Fiesta which includes our “Adopt-A-Family”
program.
All Program Services are offered
on a no cost basis to our residents.
